BQPA/Pioneers Medals
and Engraving
The supplier for the BPQA/Pioneers quartet medals is not
known.
The BQPA/Pioneers buyer for pins has been Gerry Carroll, our
VP (East). He dealt with the supplier
for some time – perhaps through two generations of medals. But he can’t actually recall the name of the
provider.
The last order for medals was in October of 2011, and the
minimum order was for 100 medals. The
die charge was $175, and the company would keep the die for 2 years. The estimate Gerry received was $4.00 per
medal, with ribbon. The total cost was
on the order of $600.00, with shipping and handling.
50 medals were sent to Jim Milner for use at the western
festivals, and Gerry Carroll kept 50 for the eastern gatherings. The total of 100 medals should last
BQPA/Pioneers about 12 years, so we should be thinking about re-ordering in
2022.
In future, we might consider asking The Monterey Company,
the provider of our membership pins, to quote on supplying our medals. We will need a sample to send to the
supplier, so the design can stay consistent.
Engraving:
Our quartet medals are engraved or printed on the reverse, especially
for each Festival. The engraving is
ordered and arranged by the VP (East) or VP (West) or their assistants,
depending on the locality of the Festival.
Each of the Vice Presidents has dealt with his own preferred provider
for some time, and they should be consulted for the names and locations of
their providers, should that information be needed.
The engraving format has not been entirely consistent, but
should include the following:
“1st Place” or “First Place”
Date
Location (e.g. “Tempe”, “Chicago”, “West Festival”)
Engraving is a minor expense for BQPA/Pioneers and is
charged to our Treasury as a regularly expected expense for each festival.
